96. Get a mani/pedi

Completed: July 8, 2011

After an eventful Thursday home, Friday was meant to be a little more chill. I went out with my friends, Ali and Andre, for McDonald's and a late afternoon show at Cineplex. We saw Horrible Bosses which actually wasn't even close to horrible. It was actually really funny. Definitely worth seeing if you're looking for a funny movie! Jamie Foxx plays a small, but hilarious role in it. It totally just slayed me. "You think I know how to kill a man because I'm black?!" Not a word for word quote, but still hilarious.

Elise had texted me that day asking me if I wanted to get a mani/pedi. With the list in mind, I graciously accepted. I was honestly so pumped to get pampered the day before Edgefest. She then told me about this nail polish called Shellac. Basically, the nail polish is painted on but will only dry under UV light. Then it stays on for 14 days with out chipping or scratching. I was so excited because I love doing my nails but since I've started lifeguarding again, I haven't been able to do them. Why? Because the chlorine at my pool disintegrates top coats. (I know, intense. My hair goes in that water.)

Once we got there, we went over to the side of the "salon" where they have all of the nail polish on a shelf and you can pick which colour you want. Now the reason I put "salon" is because it was really one of those majorly sketchy salons in the sketchiest part of my home town. Sometimes the ladies doing my nails would ask me a question about my nails, and I had no idea what they were saying. I would just look at my sister and give a face that said, "HELP ME!"

When Elise and I had picked out our colours, we handed them to the ladies doing our toes. Then we realized that we had picked the exact same colour! Without even realizing it! Looking at them, you really could not tell them apart, we even got the same design on them. The only difference was that Elise's was a smidge darker than mine. But aside from that, they were exactly the same.

Then off I went to get Shellac, it was really cool. I'm not gonna lie! I hit my nail on the UV light though when I went to place it in the little spot for your hand. This is why my mom gets all mad at me when I say "Mom, I can't. I'm doing my nails." Because it actually takes me ages to do my nails and not mess them up. The Shellac polish was actually fantastic for a lifeguard! It lasted only 5 days, but considering how often I got in and out of the water made it extremely impressive. And I kind of forced it off too... WOOPS!

Elise ended up getting fake nails, which was not her intention. But she got them, and when I asked her she said that she really liked them. Fake nails are not usually something we Bee girls are into. Why? Because not being able to pick up spare change is annoying and when you try to get an itch with fake nails, for some reason it's never fully satisfying. And they hurt when they get knocked off!

After we got home, we did a facial and watched a movie. It was a perfect night hanging out with my sister. I miss her so much living away from home. We had just got to this nice spot in our relationship where we actually like to hang out and get along like 98% of the time. It's been a nice change!

Love you, Elise!

HOW CUTE ARE WE?! Awww.

First Day Home!

This weekend I got to go home for the first time since I moved to Ottawa in May. It was actually amazing to be home. I'm so pleased with how my weekend went... That I'm going to blog about it one day at a time. :)

Wednesday, after work, I drove home. To break down my day:
7:30am - Wake up
8:30am - Go to work
9:30am - Arrive at work
10:00am - Start working
BLABLABLABLA SWIMSWIMSWIM HATELIFEFORTHEENTIRETIME
7:30pm - Finish work
8:30pm - Arrive to Grandparent's house (Ottawa residence)
9:30pm - Leave for Toronto
1:00am - Arrive in Toronto (EXHAUSTED)
1:10am - Get on phone with friend from BC (Worst idea ever.)
2:00am - Go to sleep

Basically, by the time I went to sleep, I wanted to die. Needless to say, I definitely slept in on Thursday. I spent the morning sleeping and I was about to hop in the shower at noon when one of my friends from Cineplex informed me that a bunch of them were getting together for sushi at noon... It was noon and I was getting in the shower. This was not an optional shower. It was actually completely necessary. So, I took the fastest shower of my life and got to the sushi place for 12:30pm. Then I ate obscene amounts of delicious sushi. It was amazing.

I want to mention this too... Did you know that if you're over 6 people some restaurants will charge you a service charge? So like a mandatory tip? Of course, I find this out after I pay the bill... Unimpressed. If any waiters/waitresses want to explain why this is done, feel free to post a comment below...

Britney was in an accident a little while ago and after her near death experience she decided she was ready to try sushi... Bahahahaha. These are the kind of people I worked with at Cineplex. I miss them.

I feel awkward just looking at this...

After my lunch with my cinegals, I went home and picked out some clothes to wear to the photo shoot my mom arranged. Yeah... I was extremely anxious because I'm not one to sit in front of a camera and strike a pose. I'm not one of those people who will refuse to have their picture taken either... Anyways, extremely anxious! But once I got there, Anita, my photographer, was so cool and fun! I was extremely comfortable and I'm so excited to see the photos. We took them by a little stream and there was a boat and paddle that she used as props. I'm so excited to see how they turned out! The only thing that makes me sad is that she works on film, so it'll be really hard for me to post photos. But I'll probably just take a picture of my picture in it's frame.

After that, my mom and I went to get pizza at our favourite pizzeria and just chatted for a while. It was nice, I definitely miss my mom living in Ottawa. Also, when you don't live at home, your parents never argue with you when you're home. It is so nice! They're just like do you want to go out tonight? Let's do something fun! It's GREAT! I'm never moving back to Toronto... Okay, I might. I have no idea. BAH!

That's the end of my first day! Stay tuned for a mani/pedi with my sister and Edgefest!

My Future Engagement Ring

I'll probably never get married with my standards so high. But I have found my dream (I will never get it) engagement ring. It's so pretty. I can't even believe it. When I look at it, my stomach does flips.

Is it weird that I'll occasionally look at engagement rings? I don't even care. It's so perfect.

All about the 3-stone rings. So beautiful.
I hate when the stones stick out. So, the fact that this is even is so perfect.
And to top it all off, a perfect wedding band.
Now how much will this cost my husband-to-be? A whopping $12,700.

NO BIG DEAL!

What do you think of my beautiful ring?

The Gradual Lifeguard Tan

I should be blogging about my amazing weekend back home, but I'm so not down for writing. So instead, I've decided that photos of my tan will have to do.
Still living in Toronto.
This picture I took because I had bed head and I thought it was hilarious.

Sunburnt...

I will blog tomorrow, I promise! :)

Introducing: The Best Boy BFF

So as most of you know, I have a great girl best friend named Brittany. But what some of you may not know is that I have another BFF and his name is Daniel. Now you may be wondering, if you haven't posted about him before, why today? Well, today is Daniel's birthday, and today I'm feeling especially grateful for my wonderful friend.

I can definitely say that Daniel and I have a unique friendship. We've only known each other for about 3 years and it amazes me how close we are. It's like we became insta-friends when we met. I talk to him about everything; from the crazy people who come into my work, to our favourite musicals. I love our friendship, it's so fun!

What about this doesn't say fun? Chinese, Daniel, me. It was a party.

He lives in London, Ontario and I lived in Toronto up until last month, so it was always a bit of a struggle to hang out in real life. Whenever we were in town, we would always let the other person know and make an effort to see each other and do something cool. Once when he was in Toronto with his sister, we met up for a brief, but awesome lunch in Dundas Square. We went to one of our favourite diners with the BEST milkshakes. Did I mention it was on him? My heart melted a little. Best friends! It was probably one of the best hang outs ever because it didn't feel like we were long distance friends where when you see each other it's for 4 days in a row so you can make it worth while... It was just a couple of hours downtown and we got caught up on each other's lives.

One of the things I love most about Daniel is that he is a classy guy. One of the classiest guys I know. He knows when to be polite and respectful and he knows when it's cool to goof around. He can dress himself and not look like a dork. He'll always give you his advice but still encourage you to make your own decision.

Best of all, I can call him and just tell him about the funniest thing that just happened and it's not weird at all. We'll laugh and be like okay, that's it. Click. Once Dan called me while I was driving (before it was illegal), and he was like "You will not believe what just happened. I went to the opening screening of Harry Potter but left my tickets and all my friend's tickets at home. HAHAHAHA. FAIL!" It was one of those phone calls that left a grin on my face for a solid 15 minutes after I hung up.

Of course, my favourite memories with Daniel are the ones we made in Utah. Best trip ever! Michelle, Daniel and I went on a four day trip to Utah to visit friends, go to the temple and go to a BYU football game. It could not have been a more fun 4 days. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go. Here are some of the best photos from the trip!

:) <3

Dan told me that if he dies young, he wants this to be in the funeral's program.  I approve.

Overall, Daniel is a great friend and a great guy. I wouldn't trade our friendship for anything in the world. I hope that on this, his 20th birthday, he is having a grand ol' time with some great friends. Since we couldn't celebrate our birthdays together. (Mine is tomorrow!)
